FREE ENAMELLING TUTORIAL
If you are thinking about online learning, here's your chance to take a peek inside my FREE bonus enamelling course. Hello, I'm Anna and I'm your host for this FREE online video tutorial. Here, I'll show you how to use transparent enamels to add colour to a piece of silver metal clay, using a technique called wet packing. I've added a twist by also breaking up the surface of the wet packed enamels before I torch fire it. This is a fascinating and easy way to add enamels to your silver metal clay jewellery.
If you're tempted to start enamelling, and want to learn from the very beginning, how to sift enamels, what to buy, what equipment you need and how to torch fire your enamels, my complete BEGINNER'S COURSE - ENAMELLING MADE EASY, has it all! DON'T MISS THE SPECIAL OFFER >> SEE BELOW!
Video 1 >> You can add transparent enamels to your silver metal clay pieces and experiment, using this easy, wet packing enamel process
- I am using Art Clay Silver, but you can use any silver metal clay, as long as it's torch fireable. Of course, if you have a kiln, and know how to use it, you can use that instead.
- My transparent enamels are from W G Ball here in the UK. I bought mine from Cooksongold. In my Beginner's Course, ENAMELLING MADE EASY, I show you how to use opaque, transparent and painting/ed enamels.
- This tutorial shows you how to wet pack your enamel powder. The beginner's course, ENAMELLING MADE EASY, uses the sifting method.
- You will need to add a background layer and mine is in foundation white, which I've sifted onto the surface of the piece and torch fired before adding this effect.
- Don't forget to thoroughly clean your pieces before you enamel them!
Video 2 >> How to break up the surface of the wet packed enamels. Here are some tips that you might find useful
- I am going to break up the surface in the same way as I did for the blue and white china technique, which is inside my NEW ENAMELLING MADE EASY Course.
- You can use a wooden cocktail stick, if you prefer.
- Be careful how much enamel you remove so you still have some on the surface ready for torch firing!
Video 3 >> How to torch fire your enamel. Here are some tips that you might find useful
- I am using a tripod because it's important to torch fire from underneath the piece, rather than from the top.
- I am using a hand held butane gas torch. It's super quick to do!
- You will need to work through the stages of enamel firing from sugar to orange peel, to glossy. If you want to know more, these stages are all explained in the BEGINNER'S ENAMELLING MADE EASY Course.
Video 4 >> Show and tell this beautiful transparent enamelled piece of silver metal clay. Here is a comparison between using transparent enamels and painted enamels, for this technique.
- I am using 3 different colours of 80 grit, transparent enamel for this piece.
- See how the surface is glossy but not quite flat. The piece is glossy but could benefit from a tiny bit longer firing time, if you prefer a smooth surface, rather than glossy with a few indentations on the surface. Both look fabulous!
- The piece needs a final polish, which I will do with radial discs. I don't tumble enamelled pieces because I don't want the glass, which is what enamel is, to crack.
